Product and PPE destruction for a leading tool manufacturer

OX Tools is a world-leading manufacturer of tools, workwear, and PPE. The company’s mission is to bring energy and innovation to every tradesperson in the world. By continuously innovating and improving the sustainability of products, OX Tools creates high-quality products without compromising its ESG goals.

Tools made by OX Tools.

The challenge

Any business that manufactures products will encounter defects. Defects can come in the form of design problems, manufacturing flaws, marketing defects like misprinted instructions, or product safety issues.

On this occasion, OX Tools had a significant volume of a specific product that had the potential to be unsuitable for sale because the products did not meet OX’s own high standards of quality control. Without secure disposal, OX Tools may have risked its reputation had the products found a way to the open market.

With a trade-focused approach, OX Tools aims to provide tools that enhance productivity and meet the needs of the construction industry. It achieves all of these commitments and values by creating safe, sustainable products that can stand the test of time.

With customer safety and quality at the heart of its business, OX Tools therefore sought the help of a product destruction specialist to ensure the secure disposal of its defective items.

Our approach

At Shred Station, we have experience destroying all kinds of products. This includes:

  • Misprints

  • Defective products

  • Recalled goods

  • Excess stock

  • Out-of-season merchandise and fashion items

  • Unused promotional products

  • Items with old branding

  • Abandoned or unclaimed cargo

  • And much more!

Operating with a strict Zero to Landfill policy and utilising separate waste streams for all of the products we destroy ensures we maximise the potential to recycle products after destruction.

By eliminating any chance of these materials entering landfill and recycling all of the shredded plastic possible, Shred Station was able to help OX Tools in its sustainability journey, as well as protect its world-class reputation for safe, high-quality products.

Given that the items were primarily made of plastic, shredding them allowed us to divert a significant volume of non-biodegradable material from landfill. Sustainable destruction was essential in this case for two key reasons. Firstly, the products were unsafe for use and needed to be permanently removed from circulation to prevent any risk to end users. Secondly, as plastic-based items, traditional disposal would have contributed to environmental pollution.

The results

OX Tools is committed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility. The business prioritises values like innovation, ownership, agility and taking a customer-first approach to its product design. ESG is very important to OX Tools, with an emphasis on sustainability, ethical behaviour, and reliable products. For these products to be reliable, quality and safety must be maintained.

Coupled with being a lifetime CarbonNeutral certified company, our Zero to Landfill policy and commitment to recycling means that we could get OX Tools the sustainable result it needed when looking to destroy defective goods. By destroying these defective goods, we removed the risk of any unsafe products from entering the market. We’ve since collected and destroyed more products for OX Tools and look forward to what we hope is an ongoing, successful relationship.
