Launched in 2012 with the objective of supporting UK offshore projects, Boston Energy has grown significantly, now operating globally with 400+ technicians. This global operation is managed from the company’s headquarters in Hessle, a small town in East Yorkshire, just a few miles west of Kingston Upon Hull.
The challenge
Specialising in a green energy-related field, it will come as no surprise that Boston Energy has a watertight ESG strategy that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the global push towards net-zero.
Shred Station is a lifetime CarbonNeutral® certified company. In addition to our security commitments and accreditations, a significant number of our customers report choosing us because we align with their sustainability goals and can help reduce Scope 3 emissions across their supply chains.
With numerous materials to destroy, ranging from PPE to excess marketing materials, Boston Energy sought an efficient service to manage, ideally utilising a single company for all destruction requirements. However, with sustainability at its core, Boston Energy also cared about finding a company that wouldn’t just destroy its materials but one that would do so with the environment in mind at all times.

Our approach
The first time we heard from Boston Energy was at the start of 2025. The company required a one-off service for a cage full of PPE. This included ropes, helmets, life jackets, harnesses, and more. We performed this service off-site at our specialist destruction facility in Manchester.
With over 400 technicians on their books, it quickly became apparent that a regular PPE collection could be an optimal way to ensure old or unsuitable PPE was quickly removed from circulation. So, Boston Energy approached us again, this time for a regular service. We then installed a 240-litre lockable bin at another of their sites in Beverley, which we collect every 12 weeks. In addition to their regular service, we have also performed several ad hoc services for Boston Energy.
The material we have collected and destroyed from Boston Energy so far includes:
PPE - such as harnesses, ropes, carabiners, helmets, hi-vis clothing, life jackets, trousers, and boots.
Surplus marketing materials and products.
Unused, out-of-date drug and alcohol tests.
Old desk chairs.
For us, Boston Energy is a dream client. For every enquiry, they know exactly what materials they have, the quantities they have, what size bin they want, and when they want their collections. Absolutely nothing we shred goes to landfill in line with our Zero to Landfill policy, and after shredding, we recycle all possible materials.
Following our recent rebranding, we had a range of legacy marketing materials and used PPE that were no longer needed. As a company committed to supporting the transition to a net-zero economy, it was important to us that any disposal aligned with our sustainability values. In Shred Station, we found a partner who shares those principles, and we’re proud to be working with them.

The results
By using Shred Station, Boston Energy has been able to destroy its PPE while also preventing any of it from entering landfill. By avoiding landfill and using a certified CarbonNeutral® company, Boston Energy has been able to reduce the carbon footprint of its waste streams.
We have enjoyed a successful working relationship with Boston Energy since early 2025. Their regular service is taken care of by our Customer Service Team, and any new ad-hoc services are successfully managed by one of our Internal Sales professionals, Jack Flesher. Jack greatly enjoys hearing about what items require secure destruction and disposal.
I really love working with Boston Energy. I get along well with Mirjam, who works in the company’s Health and Safety team. Most of the enquiries we receive in my team relate to confidential paperwork, so it’s always a nice challenge to organise collections for things that aren’t strictly confidential waste, but things that need to be destroyed for health and safety reasons. The clean energy industry in general is very interesting, and, for the technicians especially, it must be quite a physically tough job. It’s nice to think we can play our small part in keeping the people who work in that industry safe.

Sales at Shred Station
We are pleased to report that representatives from Boston Energy feel the same way.
Everything we do is focused on contributing to a more sustainable world, so of course, when we had surplus materials that we needed to get rid of, we were never going to be satisfied with anything potentially going into landfill. I have found Shred Station easy to work with – they’re highly responsive, reliable, and environmentally responsible, which is exactly what we were looking for.
